The Academy’s Journal publishes essays that present the work of the Communes, results of conferences, seminars, and other gatherings or the work of researchers, students, and activists who come to the Academy for a writing retreat. The journal is thus the result of collective processes of thinking and knowledge production, reflecting the wider aims and methods of the Academy.

Why this journal? Why now? In the revolutionary spirit of Rojava, we view this journal not only as an intervention into contemporary critical discourse but, more ambitiously, as a contribution to a radical reconceptualization of social science as a vehicle of human emancipation—the sociology of freedom.
